Recreational Programs

WEEKLY ICE SCHEDULE

Oakville Skating Club runs several Skate Canada sanctioned Learn-to-Skate Programs as a  partnership initiative with the Oakville Department of Parks and Recreation.  As such, the programs adhere to the High Five™ Quality Program and the R-Zone policy.

All sessions are coached by Oakville Skating Club's Skate Canada Certified professional Coaches who are also available for both private and semi-private lessons, taught on the skater’s session. (See coaches page for more information).  We also have trained skaters, called Program Assistants, who help with our group lessons.

All programs have a convenor assigned to each session.  The convenor is your link to the Oakville Skating Club. The convenor is available for questions and concerns before and after the session.

Our Skate Canada certified coaches are available for both private and semi-private lessons on all CanSkate, TeenSkate/Adult sessions.  These lessons are taught on the skater’s session.  Arrangements for these lessons are made directly with the coach and the fee is billed by the coach to the parent of the skater.  Coaches’ names and days of availability can be obtained through your convenor; their bios are available in the Office.

To find out more about the programs, times and cost, please click on the blue hyperlinks.

Number of classes varies due to holidays and cancellations.  Programs are priced accordingly.

Please note that due to the format of our programs, we regret that we cannot allow make-up lessons.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS

The CanSkate Program:

Skate Canada developed this program to teach skills on a continuum and variation of 6 basic elements of skating.  Balance, Glide Forward, Glide Backward, Edges, Power and Speed.  Each basic element is presented as a stage of learning and badges are presented when a skater successfully learns the skills in each stage.  The children learn in a group environment of 8:1 ratio.

The Skate Canada STARSkate Program:

After completing the CanSkate program, skaters interested in figure skating will begin the Skate Canada STARSkate Figure Skating Program.  For more information about this, please contact the OSC office or your coach.  For more information, please see the STARSkate Figure Skating Programs pages on this site.
